Since I have nothing else to post about, and need to kill time before section, I'll update everyone on the swimming.
While I've worked my way up to 1000m a day, 6 days a week, I haven't stopped there. I was doing 1 breaststroke lap, 2 freestyle laps, etc. up to 20. The freestyle included a floater for my legs, so it wasn't even full on freestyle. Lately, I've altered the ratio of breaststroke to freestyle to 1:3, with one of the freestyle laps a full-on with-legs lap. Yesterday and today, I widened the ratio to 1:4, with 2 of the freestyle laps using legs.
Tomorrow I'm cutting out the breaststroke altogether, I'm going to use the kickboard to do the bottom half of the butterfly for a lap in place of the breastroke. I think when I have a ratio of 1:3 kick:freestyle for a while I'm going to try to introduce the first part of the butterfly as well. I know it won't go over well, I tried doing it yesterday and failed miserably. But I'm focusing on making it harder and harder on myself. I'm mostly just trying to distract myself from all the mostly nude guys.

wow. that's an awesome schedule. i'm gonna need to take up swimming pretty soon. it's just a matter of finding the time.
all the best
torchy!
Hey. Glad to see you are swimming. It's great for your health.
Just some advice: If you want to make things harder, speed up the breaststroke. When I swam, I did freestyle and breaststroke, and I was always more tired after a breaststroke race. Try doing 100m of breaststroke at race speed and compare it to how you feel after 100yd of freestyle at race speed. Trust me, the breaststroke feels far worse.
So, to up the level of work, just speed up the breaststroke.
Why not the breaststroke?
Congrats on the progress.
lol well I admit that most of that post was meaningless to me- I have no idea what these ratios mean, but I assume that it's a good thing! :D
I'm glad you're exercising regularly, I should probably do that >_> :P
James!
You make me want to swim! Water just sounds so sexy the way you describe it! LOL

Jason - Yeah, that's an option. The thing is, I really want to work my way up to butterfly for at least half the strokes I do. Breaststroke, though, just doesn't work my upper body like I need it to, not even at higher speeds. My legs still do too much of the work. With freestyle, though, (esp with the floatie), it's almost entirely my arms that are working. And that gives me the upper body workout I need to get to butterfly.
NG - The breaststroke, as I do it, is sort of the break in the laps I do. I go the slowest on it and it requires the least energy. Cutting it out means I work a lot harder.
Dean - You can come along with me anytime you want to. :) I promise, though, me in a bathing suit will ruin any romantic thoughts you may have about the water. >_<
lol - "mostly" nude
You make an excellent point. Working your way up to butterfly is a great goal. My coach once told me that if I did 100yds of butterfly everyday, women would be all over me. It's an excellent workout.
Good job! Keep it up!! ^_^
The butterfly is HARD. I'm not even sure I can do one lap of it anymore. o_O
I just hope you're there to save me from drowning since I can't swim

Be careful, James!
I just may take you up on that!
